Key Information for Startup Permit Applicants:

Get all the necessary information about application, and the next steps after receiving your permit.

Accepted Languages for Application:

Applications and all related documents must be submitted in English, Finnish, or Swedish. Documents in other languages will not be considered.

Consultants for Business Plans and Applications:

You can hire external advisors, but it’s not necessary. The application should be completed by your team. Talent Bridge does not endorse or partner with any consultants, so be cautious with your choice and verify their claims. Free services from Finnish cities are available to assist with the startup permit and relocation.

Processing Time for Eligibility Statement:

The typical processing time is 1-2 months. During busy periods or holidays, this may be longer.

Family Relocation:

Spouses and children under 18 can apply for residence permits with you. However, other relatives are not eligible for this type of permit.

Startup Permit Quota:

There is no annual limit on the number of Startup Permits issued.

Eligibility Statement is referring to the Finnish Aliens Act

The law for high-growth startup entrepreneurs was introduced in 2018 and updated in 2023. The relevant sections (80 and 80a) are available in Finnish and Swedish, with English translations provided for reference.

Reporting Progress:

You do not need to report progress unless specifically requested, but ensure you continue to meet permit requirements. Migri conducts automatic monitoring to verify ongoing compliance.

Permit Extension:

To extend your permit, visit the Finnish Immigration Service website and apply for an ‘Extended permit for an entrepreneur.’  For an extension, you must still meet the original criteria, including having at least two full-time employees and showing progress in your business.
