1. Income Requirement for Students:
To get a residencepermit for your studies in Finland, you must show you can support yourself financially. You can’t rely on work to prove your income when applying for your first permit. You need to provide evidence of how you’ll fund your stay during your first year.
2. Financial Requirements:
You need at least €560 per month to cover living costs (e.g., accommodation, food).
For studies lasting one year or more, you must have €6,720 in your bank account when applying.
For studies shorter than a year, you need €560 per month for the duration of your stay.
If you receive a scholarship or grant, it can count toward this amount. For example, if you get a €2,000 grant for one year of study, you need €4,720 in your bank account (€6,720 – €2,000 = €4,720).
If your school provides free accommodation or meals, the amount required in your bank account is reduced.
3. Tuition Fees:
You must also show you can pay your tuition fees. If you’ve already paid, include proof with your application. If not, you must have enough money in your account to cover both the tuition and living costs.
4. Work and Extended Permits:
With a study permit, you can work up to 30 hours per week, but your work shouldn’t interfere with your studies. When applying for an extended permit, you can use your job as proof of income.
5. Proving Your Income:
Include a bank statement for the last 3 months showing sufficient funds. The account must be in your name, and sponsorship agreements are not accepted. If your school provides benefits like free accommodation, include proof of that. For extended permits, also attach your employment contract if you have one.
